A quiet weekend on the list
Newark's buyable list of houses and townhomes held at 66. No homes joined or left between Sunday's and Monday's MLS exports, and no sellers changed their prices. One home that had been back on the market now shows as simply active, and the under contract count held at 27.
Most homes lost to fire were underinsured
A California study of 74,070 fire claims on owner-occupied homes from 2018 to 2023 found that 71.3% of the homes destroyed were underinsured, by about 19% on average. Ordinary house fires came up short 68% of the time, so this is not only a wildfire problem. The weak link was the insurer's own rebuild estimate, which ran below the final loss most of the time.
